Frequently Asked Questions
What types of sports injuries does MD Therapy treat?
We regularly treat a wide range of sports injuries including muscle strains, ligament tears (ACL, MCL, meniscus), joint pain, shoulder impingement, back pain, sciatica, and overuse injuries common in runners, rugby players, footballers, and gym-goers. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual.
Can sports therapy help if I don’t play a sport?
Absolutely. Many of our clients are office workers, retirees, or people with active hobbies like gardening, walking, or calisthenics. Sports therapy is designed to improve mobility, reduce pain, and support recovery for anyone experiencing muscular or joint issues.
How soon after an injury should I book an assessment?
We recommend booking an injury assessment as soon as possible. Early treatment can reduce swelling, speed up recovery, and prevent the issue from becoming chronic. If you’re unsure whether to rest or train, an assessment will give you the right guidance.
What happens during an injury assessment at MD Therapy?
Your therapist will take a detailed history of your injury and lifestyle, perform functional movement tests, and identify areas of weakness or imbalance. From there, you’ll receive a tailored treatment plan, which may include manual therapy, taping, rehabilitation exercises, or osteopathic care.
How long does it take to recover from a sports injury?
Recovery depends on the type and severity of injury, lifestyle factors, and how consistent you are with your rehab plan. Some clients feel significant improvements after 1–2 sessions, while more complex injuries like ACL or meniscus tears may require several months of structured rehabilitation.
Do you offer recovery treatments for athletes in training?
Yes. Many of our clients come to us for maintenance and recovery sessions, including compression therapy, infrared therapy, deep tissue massage, and mobility coaching. These sessions are designed to reduce muscle soreness, prevent injury, and keep athletes performing at their peak.
Can I book treatments if I’m preparing for a competition or event?
Definitely. We often work with athletes preparing for competitions, photoshoots, marathons. or charity events. Our advanced recovery sessions can be scheduled in the lead-up to ensure your body is at its best and ready to perform.
How does MD Therapy support mental wellbeing as part of recovery?
At MD Therapy, we believe recovery isn’t just physical. Pain, injury, and lifestyle changes can impact confidence, identity, and mental resilience. Our team supports clients holistically, combining movement therapy with strategies that build long-term confidence and strength.
Do you accept health insurance or is it private pay?
Yes, we work with a number of health insurers and cash plan providers, including Westfield Health, Health Shield, Medicash while other insurers may require pre-approval before authorising treatment. We always recommend checking with your insurer first to ensure they will cover sports therapy as part of your treatment plan. We’re happy to provide detailed invoices for reimbursement.
